Miami Mayor wants to let city residents pay fees in bitcoin - Bloomberg

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez says the city will issue a request for a proposal this month to enable residents to pay fees, and someday perhaps taxes, in bitcoin (BTC-USD), he told Bloomberg in a television interview. "I want us to differentiate ourselves as a crypto capital of the United States or of the world." Recall in February, Suarez expressed his desire for Miami to embrace bitcoin (BTC-USD); now he says it's "a major priority" for the city to be able to pay government employees in BTC. The city is also seeking permission for the city to hold bitcoin (BTC-USD) on its balance sheet, he said. "If we would've been able to hold it from the moment that I put the resolution on our agenda, it'd be up by 30 or 40 percent, so I would've looked like a genius back then."
