Thomas Peterffy, founder and chairman of Interactive Brokers (NASDAQ:IBKR), said Thursday that the company's announcement earlier in the week that it would launch low-cost cryptocurrency trading was an effort that had been in the works for some time. "I've been aching to do this," Peterffy told CNBC, adding that the company's management had "been wanting to do this for quite some time" as well. On Monday, Interactive Brokers Group (IBKR) announced the launch of the crypto trading service through blockchain infrastructure platform Paxos. While Peterffy has long wanted to install crypto trading on his platform, he said he doesn't understand the use of Bitcoin (BTC-USD) and other similar cryptos as a payment medium. Instead, he argued that stablecoins make more sense, since they are tied to a particular national currency like the U.S. dollar.
