Non-fungible tokens or NFTs have been quite the rage these days. In an Austin, Texas conference called ‘Into The Metaverse: Creators, Commerce, and Connection’ at SXSW, the CEO of Meta (Facebook), Mark Zuckerberg announced his upcoming plans of introducing non-fungible tokens on the social media platform, Instagram. During his speech, Zuckerberg stated that he hopes that someday Instagram users will be able to mint the clothes of their digital avatars. “I’m not ready to announce exactly what that’s going to be today, but, over the next several months, the ability to bring some of your NFTs in, and hopefully over time be able to mint things within that environment.” Last December, Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram stated that the social media platform had dived into NFTs with the very intention of delivering a better form of technology to a wider space of audience. Instagram has dabbled with NFT in the past as well when they hosted ‘Creator Week’ – a private event for NFT creators. Additionally, Instagram’s interest in NFT with Meta’s vision portrays an interconnected virtual world consisting of digital goods.
